I haven’t travelled before, the longest I have been on a trip is 4 weeks, so I am no expert but thought I would share what we have planned so far, and maybe those of you out there who are seasoned travellers could give me some well needed (and wanted!) pointers.

Where do I want to go?

I made a list of all the countries I want to visit. Places that I’ve always wanted to go to, that I’ve seen amazing photos of or read about. Then I compared my list to Andy’s list. He went travelling about 11 years ago and had experience on his side. Then we started researching. Lonely Planet guides, blogs, round the world ticket websites, YouTube videos. You get the jist. Then I went back to the list and started crossing off places that, after all the research, weren’t quite floating my boat. We have one year to travel and we don’t want to race through each country. We want to take our time and really experience each place we visit.

Things I’ve considered when choosing where to go

What will the weather be like? When is monsoon season? Is there one?

When is the best time of year to visit?

Do I need a visa? How long is the visa?  How long do I want to stay in that country?

Other things we’ve thought about

Travel insurance – what kind do we need and how much will it cost?

Vaccinations -what do we need to have and when before we travel do we need to have it?

I’m sure there are plenty of other things to consider but at the same time I don’t want to over plan. I still want to be spontaneous and have flexibility too.
